What started as a small company selling costumes out of tiny closets in a few apartments in California has grown to the costume shop with a national wide collection of like minded buyers and sellers who have come together to share their costumes treasures with others. This year we're primed for even more growth as the Halloween season approaches and strive to be the best Halloween costume store out there. We hope to continue to ride this wave of success while providing an easy way for sellers to make some money and buyers to enjoy the convenience of paying fair prices for costumes they wouldn't be able to find otherwise.

Our message has always been, don't underestimate the impact your costume could have on other people. Even though you've had it for years and haven't had a single use for it, it doesn't mean others won't find a way to enjoy it and use it as one of their good halloween costume ideas. There will never be a lack of Halloween ideas for people's costumes.

We recently received feedback from a user name Nichole who sold her western style dress:

"Thanks guys!! Just sold my first dress on your site! I can't tell you how long this dress has been sitting in my closet UNUSED. The girl that bought it from me said that she will be using it as a costume in a western themed local theatre show. I had a feeling someone would find a use for it. Thanks again, and I hope to list something else soon!"

This is one of many success stories that continue to inspire us to stay on track and continue to create a marketplace for our users.

In the spirit of continued success, we wanted to lay out a few of the steps to increase the odds of getting your items sold and added to the growing list of success stories this Halloween. Here are some of the most important tips for selling costumes and buying costumes.

Simple Listing Tips For Sellers

Make sure to price it right! Overpriced items are unlikely to sell.

The seller ultimately determines the price depending on the condition of the item. At Costume Grab we recommend that you list your item at no more than 25-50% of the original listing price.

DO NOT list poor quality items or items you would consider "junk". These items WILL NOT SELL. Buyers do not want old or poor quality items that a seller may be trying to remove from their closet or storage bins. Buyers are looking for quality costumes and accessories that they can enjoy for years to come.

If you have a very high quality costume that has never been worn, you have a much higher chance of selling at a higher price. If even worn once, the item should be considered used.

ITEMS SHOULD BE CLEAN, WITHOUT RIPS, TEARS, STAINS, OR OTHERWISE UNSIGHTLY FEATURES. Any issues with an item should be clearly stated in the description.

Items that are more than a few years old rarely sell unless they have been very well taken care of or are by a high quality manufacturer.

If you purchased your item for a high price tag and are able to show the proof of that, you are more likely to sell the item for a higher price.

Show Off Your Costume!

Creative Halloween costumes are the quickest to sell when you post clear photos of your costume, preferably of you (or anyone else) wearing the item! Clear photos against the wall or draped across a bed are OK, but the best selling items are worn by sellers and showcased to buyers.

Be very accurate in your description. Use the same words and phrases that you would use if you were looking for the item yourself. Feel free to use keywords in the description as they can help the buyer while using the search box.

Be accurate about any measurements or flaws. A flawed costume is OK as long as the quality is still intact. By being honest with any issues, buyers will be more likely to purchase your costumes.

Following these steps have proven time and time again to increase your chances of getting your costumes sold.

Buyers on Costume Grab Often Have Questions

I'm interested in buying a costume, what do I do now?

That's great! You are on you way to being the life of the party, comic con, or any dress-up event there is! The first step is to click on "Contact Seller" and express your interest. You can offer a price, or simply ask questions or post comments to the seller. Once a price agreement is made, it is usually best to make payments by PayPal.

Who will pay for shipping and what does it cost?

The buyer and seller will determine who pays the shipping cost (you, the seller, or shared). Commonly sellers will include the shipping cost in the asking price and inform the buyer at the time of sale. Shipping costs vary depending on size, weight, and shipping method. Make sure that the seller provides you with the shipping tracking information.

Do they have a return policy?

It is up to the seller to offer the return policy. If they do have one, they may expect you to: (1) notify them within 24 of receipt that you wish to return the item; (2) require you to ship the item back immediately; (3) they may require you to pay a return fee of 15% of the purchase price of the item.

Following these tips will ensure that your buying process goes smoothly and both parties are happy to do business together.

And That's All You Have To Do

To sell costumes or buy costumes is not a difficult task by any means. If you have a quality costume that is unique, you have a very high chance of buyers reaching out to you to pick up their next costume for Halloween or the many other costume events throughout the year.

With our rising success, we believe Costume Grab users got tired of googling "halloween stores near me" or "cosplay shops near me". Now anyone can head on over to our costume shop and find one of the best places to get cheap costumes.

Costume Grab was born out of the lack of places that sell costumes and we are proud to be the answer to a "year round costume store near me". Rarely can you find good stores that sell costumes or halloween costumes websites that don't just offer the same old stuff. At Costume Grab we will continue to improve our marketplace and bring you the best costumes from every state in the country (and possibly the world!). Never forget that a costume you might think is typical can always be used as one of the many original Halloween costumes for another person. Thanks for being a part of Costume Grab, and along with our continued growth, we are coming up with some fun and new ways for our users to profit in the future.

Today we will be discussing some of the coolest new costumes listed on Costume Grab and how they are perfect choices for Halloween ideas this year. Sometimes easy Halloween costumes are hard to come by, but at Costume Grab, we aim to provide you with as many options as possible to get the job done for any type of Halloween events you have this year.

Just in time for the new Jurassic Park movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, we got a great listing for a big blue dinosaur. When it comes to easy Halloween costumes, it doesn't get much better than a Fuzzy Blue Dinosaur!

Sometimes Halloween ideas are hard to come by, but Dinosaur costumes never get old with kids. Plus you have the added benefit of staying warm no matter what the weather is in late October! I just wish I could fit into this costume because I would definitely wear it on Halloween day.

As a bonus, if you want to add to the Halloween fun for kids and you're in the mood for dinosaurs, you can't go wrong with the Toddler Dino!

This costume basically screams Halloween fun for kids. Dress your toddler up in the Toddler Dino and get them to do their best T-Rex roar. I guarantee you won't be dissapointed in the cuteness.

Here's another one of those great dress up ideas for kids, this one just happens to be for babies.

It fits right into the dinosaur theme. Speaking of cute costumes, why not pick this one up at the old Costume Grab costume shop? It's another one of the simple costume ideas, but what little baby wouldn't love being a little baby Dragon this Halloween? Sure, they may not remember ever being in it, but as parents we get to show them off to friends, or embarass them with it when they grow up!

Next up, we have the Queen of Winter.

This hand-crafted costume could be just what your child needs to fit the bill for creative Halloween costumes this year. Not only do they get to be the Queen of Winter, but it also doubles as a 18th century Russian Princess equipped for a cold Siberian winter.

One of the most creative Halloween costumes we've seen this year is Bender from Futurama.

This ridiculously well done costume is one of those halloween dress up ideas that is practically guaranteed to make you the life of the party. Even if people aren't familiar with the show, everyone likes a robot costume, especially one that allows for secret compartments for your favoriate Halloween libations.

This may be one of the scariest Halloween costume ideas yet. Clever Halloween costumes don't always have to be the ones covered in blood and guts to get a scare out of the kids roaming the streets at night. So of the best things to do on Halloween are to plan for scaring as many small children as you can. And to do that, you need a truly terrifying costume.

I tried to warn you! I mean just look at those huge bulging eyes staring into your soul. The Cookie Monster is the stuff of nightmares. Unfortunately, it's not one of those easy to make Halloween costumes either, so make sure to contact the owner today if you want to be the most fear inducing thing in your neighborhood on All Hallow's Eve.

By far, this is the coolest costume that has been listed on Costume Grab. We aim to be the costume shop that provides creative Halloween costumes, easy Halloween costumes, clever Halloween costumes, and anything in between, but nothing could prepare us for the coolness of this Deadpool costume.

With Deadpool 2 coming out this year, this is bound to be a favorite costume for anyone whose a fan of the movie. Sometimes it's best to let go of the easy Halloween costume ideas for adults, or any funny Halloween ideas you can think of, and just go for being the coolest dressed person to creep through the night this year.

So we all know there's a lot of nice halloween costume ideas out there, but they aren't always the most creative Halloween costumes. I mean in the end, what is Halloween for? It's for coming up with cool new ideas for costumes that entertain and hopefully scare the people who see you in it. The costumes on this list are all cool, creative, and fun for anyone who can fit into them.

Thanks for stopping by and make sure to check out all of our new costumes that get listed daily. You could even scroll through our costumes list just to come up with a list of Halloween costume ideas for 2018. I'm sure you'll find more than a few options to be the star of the party.

Dear Fellow Awesome Cosplayers and Avid Readers Alike,

Thank you so much for all of the support that you have given me and the rest of the people on Costume Grab since day one. It was a pleasure to have written sewing and cosplay blogs for Costume Grab.

I especailly have learned quite a lot about everything there is to know about creating costume blogs from learning how to utilize Ghost Platform and Markup language to knowing how to tailor my writing style and (to some extent) my preferences in pop culture media to my appopriate audience members.

While I am sorry to say that starting now, I will no longer be able to write blogs for Costume Grab (for the time being, anyway), at the same time, I do treasure the time spent on here. So please, don't take this as "the end." Instead, take this as the beginning of a new chapter. :)

Without further ado, here are six lifelong costume blogging lessons that I've learned while blogging:

1.Don't be afraid to utilize feedback from your "significant other"

Image via[https://pixabay.com/en/portrait-people-woman-one-3036868/]

I know, I know. It's a pain in the butt to have to deal with that one person who gives you unsolisicated suggestions. Especially if that person happens to give you the list of changes at the last minute.

However, don't take whatever your "editor" says too personally.

Nine times out of ten, having your editor be your significant other is the best way to find the true message from your acticles and hone your blogging skills at the same time.

So instead of hatching an evil plan to get rid of your "unpaid editor", sit down and listen to what he or she has to say about your blog.

2. Use your images(and videos) to tell a story rather than show the thing as it is

Image via[https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/File:DVA_GC2018.png]

Depending on what's available around you, sometimes, you don't get the luxury to pick and choose whatever images and videos that you want to use without drawing some controversy.

However, whether or not you're a fan of royalty free media, don't let that stop you or anybody else from being creative. Part of being creative is about learning to use what is already given to you.

Let's say that you want to show an image of a Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader cosplay combination in your DIY Star Wars Cosplay Combination blog. However, your ideal image happens to be copyrighted.

In addition to looking up free images online, you can also make your own by taking two seperate images: one of Luke and one of Darth Vader, and putting them together using Adobe Photoshop or Paint. While your result may not come out exactly as you would have hoped for, you never know as to what kinds of future cosplay blogs you would be able to create.

Side note: Moving images such as Giphy images are noctorious for taking up a lot of space. Even if your images don't look big on the surface, keep in mind that the person who is indexing your blog will have to deal with a lot of spacing issues.

3.Be open to learning new skills!

Image via[https://pixabay.com/en/still-life-school-retro-ink-table-851328/]

Prior to having joined Costume Grab, I didn't know how you could use Paint and markup languages to create the blogs that you want outside of an "educational sandbox situation."

However, after being given the opportunity to practice these skills in a more realistic setting, I've gained a better understanding as to how these two skills could intermingle with my writing skills.

As frustrating as it may be sometimes to have to learn more than what the job requires you to do, by the end of the end, it is worth doing some extra homework on the side, so to speak.

4. Let your "how-to-make-a-[such-and-such]-cosplay" blog tell more than just how to make a certain cosplay

Image via[http://ouran.wikia.com/wiki/Ouran_High_School_Host_Club_Wiki]

While sharing with your fellow readers your "secret steps" to making awesome DIY Anime Character cosplays may seem appealing, keep in mind that a good blog should do more than just "tell people what to do."

Part of the beauty of cosplay blogging (and blogging in general) is conveying your message through more than just words. So don't be afraid to experiment a little with your platform.

5. Be sure to create a content schedule beforehand!

Image via[https://pixabay.com/en/time-timer-clock-watch-hour-488112/]

Cosplay trends may come and go. However, as you're blogging them, it's always a good idea to create a schedule. Especially if you're the type of person who needs to space out your work.

You never know as to what sorts of ideas you may come up with.

6. Be Creative and Have Fun!

Image via[https://media.giphy.com/media/KUyqBzbLm461a/giphy.gif]

Even if some of your readers end up not buying anything off of your client's official website, there is nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun creating your blog. Just make sure that your sense of humor is appopriate for the type of audience that you want to attract.

So what?

In the meantime, if you are ever interested in keeping up with me and/or want me to help you write your cosplay blog such as this one right here, please feel free to reach out to me either on LinkedIn and/or UpWork.

Otherwise, I wish you all the best of luck on your cosplaying journey.

Cheers,

Simple, fun, and just a delight to put on, cosplaying as these characters should be no problem at all. Especially since most of their items can be purchased at Army Range Surplus stores, among others.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Army style street clothes

A couple of guns and/or swords(preferably fake ones)

Black or brown shoes(depending on your preference)

An award-winning personality ;)

Constructor Class

Here’s what you’ll need:

Street/ construction war clothes

Construction tools(hammer, nails, machines, etc.)

Black or brown shoes(depending on your preference)

A construction belt or two

Image via[https://fortnite.gamepedia.com/File:Ninja.png]

If you like swords, street clothes, and samurai culture all at the same time, then this one should be no problem for you to get adjusted to.

Here’s what you’ll need:

(Fake) Metal Armor

Optional: Either some cotton bandages or a face mask

If you're looking to buy yourself either a fake katana or some armor, typically, anime shops and martial arts shops would be the best place to start. If the prices are a little too high for you, then feel free to check out either ebay or Amazon. Hopefully, you'll find some better deals on those sites.

As for the other pieces, you can find them at secondhand shops, usually.

Outlander Class

Image via[
https://fortnite.gamepedia.com/File:Outlander.png]

While this cosplay idea as no relation to the British/Scottish drama, Outlander, it is nevertheless a great one for any gamer who aspires to become an archeologist but either doesn't have the time or money to do so. Or so the person says...

While it may not be necessarily possible to train your hamster to fight in a dual, at least this cosplay idea might be perfect for your dog(or even, someone else...)

Here’s what you’ll need:

Orange and white clothes(faux fur is fine)

A pair of orange hamster ears

Of course, if you want to save yourself some time by purchasing a fake hamster costume and gluing on the forehead of it a fake bolt, feel free!

D.Va

Perhaps the most iconic video-game character in the Overwatch universie, this idea is sure to be a hit. Especially if you're looking for something awesome in time for Halloween at the same time. :)

Here’s what you’ll need:

A pink and blue bodysuit

Pink lipstick, which you can use to paint whiskers on your cheeks

Grey gloves

Grey boots

Pink metal ears

A cheeky, adorable smile

Optional: A pink gun

Tracer

Image via[https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/File:Tracer-portrait.png]

If you love Teen Titans and Portal characters and want to put the two together, then this cosplay idea should serve as an excellent start.

Here’s what you’ll need:

An orange and black stretch suit with the word, "Tracer" sewen/pressed on the side

A black jacket with a blue crest in the middle

White Portal style handcuffs

Black leather ski gloves

White shoes

Orange ski glasses

A messy Robin style hairdo

Two small, flat, silver earrings(piercing is optional)

Of course, if you want to make a gender neutral version of this outfit, feel free to change the name, "Trancer" to whatever name you want. You can also change the matching hairstyle and earring set. There's no crime. :)

Mei

Image via[https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/File:Mei-portrait.png]

Ni hao, dajia! Bie haoxiang yi ge moshengren Hey everyone! Don't be a stranger! Especially if you want to go as your own personal waterbender this year. Or should I say a snowbender? ;)

Here’s what you’ll need:

Black, thick-rimmed glasses

Blue and white East Asian parka jacket

Blue pants

Grey and blue colored parka ski boots

A blue snow gun with a matching snow tank

A silver hair chopstick with a red bead attached to the fat end of the stick. As well as a snowflake hanging on a chain at the very end

Side note: While we're not 100% sure if the creators of Overwatch were heavily inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender, we are sure however that they seem to care a lot about how Westerners view Asian culture.

BONUS!!!!

Lara Croft from Tomb Raider

Though it’s not 100% confirmed if Tomb Raider was one of the main inspiration for Fortnite, given that Laura’s outfit is pretty similar to what some of the characters in Fortnite are wearing, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case.

Here’s what you’ll need:

A light green tank top

A brown backpack

Black or brown pants or shorts that you can easily walk around in

Black or brown boots

A hair tie that can easily blend with dark brown colored hair

Image via[http://fortnite.wikia.com/wiki/File:Fortnite_llama_pinata.png]

Okay, to be honest. That’s not really the pinata’s real name. However, who wouldn’t want to dress up their adorable fuzzy friend as a pinata this Halloween?

Just be sure not to accidentally stuff yourself with candy before going outside to trick or treat. If you know what we mean...

Here’s what you’ll need:

A giant blue and purple pinata head with a surprised look on his face

Blue and purple striped clothes

Black shoes

A metal box, purse, or backpack with the ⇧ arrow taped to the sides

Optional: Candy

Side note: If you want, you can either make this into a two user costume or a pet costume. Just be sure that you don’t accidentally stuff either your friend or pet with candy beforehand...

Sombra from Overwatch

Back in time for PAXWest, this cosplay is great for any Overwatch fans out there who want to stand out from the crowd!

Here’s what you’ll need:

A black and purple shiny jumpsuit

Black fingerless gloves

A grey purple oversuit

Light purple lipstick

A pair turquoise blue suede shoes

Purple and pink locks/streaks of hair

Optional: A black gun(though please make sure that it is not loaded!)

For the most part, you can find these items at Target, Walmart, or any other convenience store that you can think of. However, if you’re really on a shoestring budget, feel free to borrow/steal some of items from your nearest athletic jogging mom.

Side note: By the way, for those looking for more video game cosplay ideas, feel free to check out some of our previous blogs.

Here are five extra easy, back to school, Halloween costume pairing ideas, plus a few bonuses, for you and your friends to try out.

Danny Phantom and Sam Manson from Danny Phantom

Image via[http://loveinterest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Danny-and-Sam-danny-phantom-18875003-446-334.jpg]

Continued to be adorned by fans alike, this costume pairing is great if you and your partner want to release both your inner goth and/or ghoul during this school year. Let's just hope that Mr. Lancer would agree as well!

What You’ll Need:

For Danny:

A white shirt

Blue jeans

Sneakers

For Sam:

A black tank top with an adorable skull in the middle

A black mini skirt(if your school doesn’t allow it, then any black skirt would do)

Black boots

For the most part, you should be able to find some of these items in your very own home. However, if not, feel free to check out any department or second hand shop for the clothes that you don’t already have.

Show Synopsis: A boy named Danny Phantom accidently becomes half ghost after pressing a button in his parent’s lab that transports half of his soul into the ghost realm. As a result, he accidently releases some ghosts, which he and his friends, Sam and Tucker, had to find and bring back before anyone gets suspicious.

Dipper and Mabel Pines in Gravity Falls

A nice starting set for anyone looking to unleash their inner fanboy/girl while surviving a grueling first day of school.

Hope you guys like peanut butter and jelly, by the way!

For Dipper:

A blue and white hat with a blue pine tree

A dark blue vest

A pink shirt

A pair of khaki shorts

A pair of white socks

A pair of dark blue Toms (or any equivalent of dark blue shoes)

Optional: A peanut butter suit

For Mabel:

A green, pink, or blue headband

An over long sleeved red sweater with a shooting rainbow star on it

A purple skirt

A pair of white socks

A pair of black shoes

Optional: A jelly suit

Basically, if you already have a set of appropriate school clothes, all that you would need is a sewing machine, some paint, and maybe an iron and you should be all set.

Show Synopsis: A group of twins named Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent to live with their great-uncle, Grunkle Stan, in the town of Gravity Falls, where evil and unexpected mysteries await.

Steven Universe and Connie Maheswaran in Steven Universe

Although our costume pairing may not allow you to fuse with your best friend for life, this is still a cool idea for anyone who wants to stand out amongst the crowd and not get in trouble with school authorities(knowing how strict they can be about student dress code these days…).

For Steven:

A pink shirt with a gold star in the middle(you can easily paint the star on using acrylic paint or make a seperate patch using yellow felt)

A pair of blue jeans

A pair of sandals

For Connie:

A teal colored shirt

A white jumper

A long blue skirt

A pair of white shoes(flats are fine)

To be fair, Connie doesn’t exactly have a single iconic outfit like our friend, Steven, does. However, on the bright side, at least this leaves some room for creativity. :)

Show Synopsis: Considered one of Cartoon Network’s very first LGBTQIA+ positive shows for kids, Steven Universe is a show about a boy named Steven who discovers more about his gem heritage while living under the roof of three eccentric gems: Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl.

Meanwhile, his best friend, Connie, learns that there is more to life than following in her parents’ footsteps.

Jimmy Hopkins and Gary Smith in Bully

Image via[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jimmy_and_Gary.png]

Though not the most creative costume pairing on our list, at least it’s one of the easiest. So if you’re attending a preparatory school or any school that requires its students to wear uniforms, then neither you nor your partner should have any problems getting adjusted to these outfits.

Just try not to get in trouble with the school principal if he finds out what the both of you have been up to lately….

For Jimmy:

A white collared short-sleeved shirt

A blue sweater vest with a yellow lining at the collar area

Black khaki pants

Brown leather shoes

For Gary:

A white collared short-sleeved shirt

A teal sweater vest with a yellow lining at the collar area

A Bullworth Academy patch that you can easily iron onto your sweater vest

Black khaki pants

Brown leather shoes

Of course, you are more than welcome to make female versions of these two. So don’t feel limited to what is already on this blog(or in the game for that matter). If you keep imagining yourselves in charge of a large empire, go ahead and do what you want to modify these costumes. The real spirit comes from the fun of making them. :)

Video Game Synopsis: In this semi-open world platform game, you play as a bully named James “Jimmy” Hopkins in the fictional town of Bullworth, who goes around completing quests, most of which involve beating up people, running errands, and passing classes.

Luna Lovegood and Hermione Granger in Harry Potter

Image via[https://www.pinterest.com/pin/772789617282191983/?lp=true]

Though these two never had any formal interactions throughout the Harry Potter universe outside of simple meet and greets and the occasional party, you never know as to what kinds of stories that you and your friend might have creating this costume pairing.

For Luna:

A pair of pink Quibbler glasses(blue on one side and pink on the other)

A dark blue sweater

A pair of mahogany colored pants

Black or brown boots

Optional: A copy of the “Quibbler”, which you can find on either Amazon or Etsy

Fun mini craft idea: To make the glasses yourself, you can trace an outline of them on a piece of printer paper and cut it out. Make sure that the glasses are big enough to fit your eyes(maybe even bigger if you want it to be as wild and wacky as Luna’s).

With the design in your hand, you can trace it onto a piece of cardboard, which you can later cut using either a knife or scissors.

After that, you can either use pink cardstock or gift wrapping paper, as well as a stick of glue, to cover the ugly cardboard. If you’re really pressed for time, you can paint your glasses with pink paint and apply glitter onto them.

While either the paint or glue used to put the paper on dries, feel free to cut out two types of foil: one red and one blue, and place them onto the insides of your glasses using either glue or clear tape.

Volia! Your glasses should be complete.

For Hermione:

A black Gryffindor robe

A white collared shirt

A red and gold striped gryffindor tie, which you can purchase at either Hot Topic or any convention of your choice

A black or grey pleated skirt

Black stockings/knee socks

Black Mary Jane shoes

Optional: Either a wand or a copy of “Hogwarts: A History” would do

If you want to save some extra time and money dressing up as both characters, you can buy two separate Hogwarts badges: one for Gryffindor and one for Ravenclaw, and attach them to your robe. This is an especially great costume idea for those fellow Hogwarts students who feel like they belong to more than one house and/or want to do a genderbend cosplay pairing.

Synopsis: A young boy named Harry Potter receives an unexpected invitation to go to a magical school called Hogwarts, where he encounters all sorts of magical creatures and fantastic people such as his friends, the eccentric, but loveable Luna Lovegood and his intelligent, but naive friend, Hermione Granger.

Oh hi, welcome to our schoolhouse! Don’t let Professor Baldi and the rest of the school the next time you forget to study for a Math test. Even if you’re not a huge fan of cheesy educational games or Math problems, we can guarantee that these costume ideas are great for anyone who is looking to bring out their inner gamer and survive through the school year.

For Baldi:

A long sleeved green shirt

Blue pants/jeans

Black shoes

For Friend:

Either a black cardboard figure of a human being with a white question mark drawn inside or nothing at all(HA HA! Just kidding about the last part)

Optional: A black notebook/any regular composition book of your choice

Since Friend is an unseen character, basically, you can wear any school clothes that you want. We say school because hey, the whole game pretty much takes place inside of a school building, right?

Game synopsis: In this cheesy, yet fun, semi-educational game, you play as a student solving math puzzles and collecting notebooks for Friend before Baldi, the Freddy Krueger of bad educational games, comes out and gets you.

Though technically not the most age-appropriate friendly show in the American market, at least the clothes that the kids wear in the show seem age appropriate.
For Stan:

A blue hat with a red lining and puffball

A red turtleneck shirt

A brown jacket

Blue jeans

Red mittens

Black shoes

For Stan, if you can’t find the perfect hat, you can easily make one yourself using red cloth, a blue snow hat, and a red puffball that you can either purchase at a craft store or make yourself using red yard and possibly a pair of knitting needles.

For Wendy:

A pink beret(which you can easily find in a secondhand store)

A purple jacket

A black turtleneck shirt

Black shoes

Show Synopsis: Since the show’s initial broadcast, what was once a show about four boys growing up in the fictional, quiet, mountain town of South Park, Colorado, ultimately grew into one of America’s most infamous political satires to date.

That is why, here on CostumeGrab, we created this lovely Japanese anime glossary guide. So it doesn't have to be!

With that being said, here are ten anime words you should know before coming to a convention.

Shonen (少年) vs. Shoujo (少女)

Image via[https://pixabay.com/en/photos/cat toy/]

Literally translated as “young year” in Japanese, the word, shonen often refers to anime that is geared towards boys. These animes can be action animes such as Naruto, adventure such as Jing and the King of Bandits, mecha such as Gundam, and many others. It can also refer to any anime that is appropriate for teenagers of all shapes and sizes. So don’t feel limited to a specific type of anime.

Meanwhile, literally translated as “young female”, the word, shoujo often refers to anime that is geared towards young teenage girls. These animes can be romantic comedies such as Ouran High School Host Club, slice-of-life animes such as Konfuku Graffiti Girl(aka. Gourmet Graffiti Girl), mahou shoujo(aka. magical girl) animes such as Sailor Moon, and so on. Of course, if you’re a boy and you enjoy watching shoujo anime, there is no shame in that. Let’s face it, for two shoujo animes, Fruits Basket and Madoka Magical Girl are both pretty darn awesome.

And no, Mom and Dad, anime is NOT just for kids to watch. Even grownups can watch anime too. :)

Yaoi(やおい) vs.Yuri(ゆり)

Image via[https://media.giphy.com/media/3xvtRTJ7z1iYE/giphy.gif]

Fortunately, with increased acceptance of gay marriage across the world, yaoi and yuri animes are not quite as taboo as they were back in the 70s and 80s. So to any of you Revolutionary Girl Utena and Free! Fans out there, congratulations! More power to you guys in the anime world.

For those of you who aren’t familiar as to what these two means, while yaoi refers to “boy-on-boy love”, yuri on the other hand refers to “girl-on-girl love”. In other words, both words refer to couples of the same gender who love each other very much.

While these words are often associated with same-sex couples doing more than holding hands and kissing in public, trust us, folks, it’s not as bad as any of you would think.

Sensei(先生) vs. Senpai(先輩)

Image via[https://pixy.org/4670188/]

Otherwise pronounced as xiansheng in Mandarin Chinese, sensei basically means “teacher” or “master” in Japanese. While the first character, 先, means “first”, the second character, 生, means “birth” or “life.” Altogether, sensei literally means, “The first born” or “The one most experienced in life.”

As for the word, senpai, which is pronounced as xianbei in Mandarin Chinese, it basically means “senior” or “mentor.” If often refers to an older student who has more experience and in some cases, knowledge. While the first character, 先, means “first”, the second character, 輩, means “class” or “generation.” In other words, the word, senpai, literally translates to “of the first generation (or class).”

In most animes, a senpai is often portrayed as the oldest, most productive, intelligent, male student in the class.

So the next time that you see someone wearing a button or a shirt that reads, “Notice me senpai!” at an anime convention, at least you would get the reason why(in more than one way, anyway).

Loli((ロリ) vs. Lolicon(ロリコン)

A borrowed word from Vladimir Nabokov’s most famous/infamous novel, Lolita, a loli refers to a girl who either looks young for her age or has not yet reached the age of consent.

As for the word, lolicon, it basically refers to type of media that makes young anime girls look and act mature for their age. While this idea may seem pretty disturbing to most anime viewers, trust me when I say that it’s not as bad as you would think. After all, even in the anime world, young girls have to give consent as to who they want to consider their senpai.

And no, the word, lolita, has nothing to do with the book or the concept of lolis and lolicons. Please read our previous blog for more details.

GRAMMAR LESSON TIME!

ます(Masu) vs. ました (Mashita)

While both endings in Japanese culture are used to make action verbs more polite, while masu refers to actions that are done in the present, mashita refers to actions that were done in the past.

For instance, let’s suppose that you ask your fellow cosplay friend if you could borrow his or her adorable animal ears. After explaining to your friend why you want the ears, your friend gives you the ears and asks to have the ears back once you’re done with them. To thank your friend for the ears, you would say, “Arigatou gozaimasu (ありがとうございます)” because the kind act had just been completed.

Now let’s suppose that you managed to return the ears safe and sound with maybe a scratch or two and a spot of missing fur on it (shhhhhh…). To thank your friend again for letting you borrow the ears, you would say, “arigatou gozaimashita (ありがとう ございました)”, because the previous favor or action had just been completed.

In other words, assuming that you’ve already fulfilled your promise to return the ears to your friend, only then could you close the deal by saying, “arigatou gozaimashita” to your friend.

Still confused? Well don’t worry, as long as you remember to say, “thank you” in Japanese for letting you borrow someone’s cosplay item, you should be fine. :)

Tsundere(ツンデレ) vs. Yandere(ヤンデレ)

Both of these words are often used in the anime world to describe people who don’t always know how to express their love and/or infatuation towards someone. However, while tsunderes tend to hide away their true feelings for someone by acting mean and angry towards both the person whom he or she loves, as well as those around him or her. (usually, not to the extent of killing that person), yanderes tend to act nice on the surface, but watch out! If you miss with whoever it is that the yandere loves, he or she will go to the point of going on a killing spree just to protect who he or she loves.

So if you ever come across either a tsundere or worse, a yandere in real life, watch out!

Ecchi(エッチ) vs. Hentai(変態 or へんたい)

Based off the word, ero(エロ), which means Eros(as in Cupid, the son of the Roman goddess, Venus) in Japanese, the word, ecchi refers to anyone who likes to touch people inappopriately. In other words, a pervert...

Meanwhile, short for hentai seiyoku(変態性欲, a preverse sexual desire), the word, hentai, refers to a pervert as well.

In other words, both ecchi and hentai refer to people who have sexual desires towards one or more people.

Although both ecchi and hentai can refer to people who are complete perverts, in the United States, hentai basically means a genre of anime related to pornography. So don’t feel bad if you get the two mixed up. In Japan, either word is right, regardless.

Sushi(寿司) vs. Sashimi(刺身)

Understandably, because both food items start with the word, “s”, it is pretty easy to get the two mixed up. However, as a general rule of thumb, while sushi is a popular Japanese fast food that contains rice, fish, and nori(which is a type of seaweed), sashimi, on the other hand, is a fancier food item that is nothing more than sliced raw fish or meat.

As for me, I’ll take my yummy slices of raw fish in both forms, thank you very much!

Sumimasen(すみません) vs. gomennasai(ごめんなさい)

Generally speaking, both of these words can translate to the word, “sorry.” However, while sumimasen is used to say, “Excuse me” or “Pardon”, gomennasai literally translates to the word, “sorry!” and therefore is for something more serious.

But don’t worry! Regardless as to which word you use, your actions of having accidentally ruined your friend’s favorite cosplay ears(and other accessories) will be forgiven.

Kimono(着物,) vs. Yukata(浴衣)

Photo taken by Kentaro Sensei of The Way of Tea in Tennessee

Translated as “word object” in Japanese, the word, kimono, refers to a garment, typically made out of silk, that comprises of multiple layers of fabrics. Typically, when you go to weddings, ceremonies, and sometimes, winter festivals(among other important events), you see people wearing these.

Meanwhile, translated as “bath robe” or “bath garment” in Japanese, the word, yukata refers to a garment that is often made of cotton and generally consist of one or two layers of fabric. They are usually a little more simple than kimonos.

Typically, when you go to Japanese hot springs and summer festivals, you see a lot of people wearing these garments given how light and comfortable they are.

J-pop vs. K-pop

Let’s face it, they’re both beloved by anime fans alike. However, while one is popular in Japan, the other is popular in Korea(more specifically, Korea). That is why J-pop is short for “Japanese pop/popular music” whereas K-pop is short for “Korean pop/popular music.”

Domo vs. Domoarigatou vs. Domoarigatougozimasu

By itself, Domo can be used to say, “Hey!”, “Thanks!”, “Good!”, “Okay!” or even “Bye!”

However, when paired with the phrase, “Domoarigatou,” it basically means, “Thank you!”

Meanwhile, the phrase, “Domoarigatougozimasu”, translates to “thank you very much!”

What shows are you excited to see this year? With SDCC2018 now out of the way, now would be a good time to experiment with whatever Star Wars clothing, accessories, and cosplay accessories that you have. After all, since Halloween and PAXWest are coming up, who wouldn’t want to try combining other cosplays with Star Wars characters?

Without further ado, here is our Star Wars DIY Cosplay Remix!

The Heros(or in this case, Heroines) of the Story - Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and (Young) Lara Croft from Tomb Raider

As two of the world’s most beloved protagonists in Ancient Geek history, why else would it make any sense to put the two together? After all, they’re both young and naive heros who ultimately grew up to help out humanity. Not to mention that they both look relatively similar(oddly enough….).

What You’ll Need:

A grey tunic/dress with slits on the sides

Either a light green or grey colored tank top

A green talisman

A brown belt to wrap around your tunic

Black or brown pants that you can easily walk around in

Black or brown boots

A hair tie that can easily blend with dark brown colored hair

Possible tools of the trade:

Fabric scissors

Either a sewing machine or a good old fashioned needle and spool of grey colored thread

Light green or grey colored fabric dye, which you can purchase at any craft store

A green flat stone that you can easily purchase at any craft store

A brown leather cord for the necklace

For the most part, you can find these outfit pieces at any costume or second-hand shop that you can find. However, if you really need to have a grey tunic, you can take any grey colored dress and cut it/sew it however you see it. As for the necklace, you can make it using a brown leather cord and a green flat stone.

Side note: Psst! Need help getting started with some of the Star Wars pieces? Feel free to check out our very first blog for references!

Sorry fellow gamers, but according to our friend, MatPatt, from YouTube’s Gamer Theory, it appears that our fellow plumber friend from the mushroom kingdom happens to be a member of the dark side. That is why with this cosplay combination, you’ll be sure to be the most unstoppable in villain all throughout the galaxy. MUWHAHAHAHAHA!

What You’ll Need

A red hat with the “M” emblem on him

Black gloves

A black cape

Blue overalls

A black Darth Vader mask

A red shirt

Either black or brown boots

Possible tools of the trade:

Fabric scissors

Either a sewing machine or a good old fashioned needle and spool of thread that matches the cloth that you want to sew

Fabric paint(if you want to paint the “M” symbol on yourself)

Red or black dye(if you’re not able to find the right colored fabrics)

For the most part, you can find these at any craft or costume store. However, if you need help, you can always ask someone if you can borrow(or in this case, “borrow”) some of their pieces.

In fact, if you’re desperatly looking to find a Mario hat or any other type of Mario outfit, feel free to check out what we already have in the shop. https://www.costumegrab.com/search/view/109

The Intergallatic Jerks - Han Solo and Spike Spiegel

Ah yes, fellow space cowboys(and girls), who would ever forget our own two most believed stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herders?

Now to be fair, there are no such things as “nerf herders” in Spike Spiegel’s world of crime and bounty hunting. But hey, given that he and Han Solo share similar personalities, why wouldn’t they be?

What You’ll Need:

A leather brown, blue black jacket

A collared white shirt

Black or dark blue pants

Brown or black shoes

Possible tools of the trade:

Fabric scissors

Either a sewing machine or a good old fashioned needle and spool of grey colored thread

Hailed from the Lands of Alderann and Ancient Greece comes two of the world’s most beloved, crime fighting rulers of royalty: Leia and Xena!

At least now you won’t have to choose as to who you want to go as for the next cosplay ball, especially since their battle outfits are so similar.

What You’ll Need:

Leather, lots and LOTS of leather gear. Otherwise, if you want to save yourself some extra time and get yourself some brown clothes that you can easily trim off, you can

Brown leather boots(otherwise, you can always go barefoot, if you want)

Metal (if possible) . Otherwise, you can always use some leftover plastic armor from years back and make something new out of them

A combination of a high pitched battle cry and an annoying bossy voice.

Possible tools of the trade:

A rotary cutter (works better than scissors for leather)

Either a sewing machine or a good old fashioned needle and spool of grey colored thread

Basically, if you want to take the long and hard way, you can always go to your nearest black smith and forge your own. Otherwise, it’s probably best to borrow your mom or sister’s leftover dresses, swimsuit pieces, and/or bras and make something cool out of them.

The Wise Alien Folks - Mr. Spock and Yoda

Well, well, well, it appears that here in the galaxy, we have two of the wisest alien creatures of all: Yoda and Mr. Spock. At least would seem rather logical that they’d both be a matching making cosplay in Heaven, right?

Well regardless, if you’re having trouble deciding between which of our two wise ones do you wanna cosplay as, then here’s an idea that’s perfect for you!

What You’ll Need:

A long blue sleeved overshirt with whatever spaceship symbol you want on it

A long black sleeved undershirt

Black or Grey pants

A grey robe

A nice pair of long alien ears(color is up to you

Black boots

Green makeup

Possible tools of the trade:

A pair of scissors

Latex(to make the ears)

An iron and ironing board

Either a sewing machine or a good old fashioned needle and spool of grey colored thread

Other than you needing to possibly iron on the patch to the shirt, this cosplay looks pretty easy, doesn’t it? As for the ears, you can either purchase them at a convention or at a craft store or making them by hand doesn’t seem very feasible. What do you think, Mr. Spock? Mr. Spock?

Ah boo hoo you two, overly depressed, mysgnostic, grown-men! Just because you’re not like your fathers doesn’t mean that you aren’t worth anything on our list. To be quite frank, you’re actually worth a lot more. ;)

What You’ll Need:

A grey colored cloak/tunic to go with your lovely red robe

A long yellow collar

A long beard(trimmed or untrimmed. Try experimenting with the combination if you want to)

A combination of yellow, red, and grey clothes

A blue arrow painted on your forehead

Possible tools of the trade:

A red eyelight that you can easily switch off with your big, handmade, wide eyes

A curious mind

Optional: A random dirty bra that you found in the depths of your sister’s closet one day. Ssssshhhhh...

First off, Johnny, my name isn’t Lisa, it’s Athena. Second off, why are you so hysterical? Part of the fun of putting two different cosplays together is tearing them apart. But hey, at least you and Jar Jar will become famous on here. Isn’t that right, Jar Jar?

What You’ll Need:

Long, black curly hair with maybe some orange highlights

A boring brown shirt, preferably one in which you can easily take the sleeves off

A boring brown belt

Either boring brown or grey pants

A set of yellow alien eyes

Optional: Shoes
Optional: A bad Jamaican accent combined with a bad Eastern European accent and a whiny voice

Conclusion

So tell us fellow cosplayers, which of our following cosplay combinations did you like out of the bunch? Do you think that Mario is actually as bad as MattPatt makes him out to be as? Who do you think is the worst comic relief character of all time? Be sure to leave us a comment on the bottom. Many thanks!

How about a way to reuse that old expensive cosplay and/or lolita street fashion outfit that you’ve been storing in your closet for quite some time? If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, then congratulations! You’ve come to the right place.

Here at Costume Grab, we not only offer anime costumes that you can purchase right off the spot, we also offer some valuable DIY tips to help breathe new life into your old costumes/outfits/cosplay items.

Whether you’re out on a night in the town trying to find and collect all of the matching clown cards or looking for a way to reuse your leftover lolita outfit pieces(which I’m sure cost you and your family a fortune, yikes!), this cosplay is the perfect way to help you make the most out of what is already in your closet.

After all, what’s not to love about this adorable costume, as well as the classic mahou shoujo who wears it?

What you’ll need:

A reddish/pink hat with a giant bow on the back

A white, short sleeved lolita style inner dress

A red outer dress with a white ribbon wrapped around the bottom portion

A pair of red shoes

White tights/stockings

White gloves

A pink staff with a white bird etched on top of it

Optional: An adorable, though sometimes, annoying yellow cat-winged sidekick named Cerberus

For the most part, you can find these items at any cosplay, lolita, and/or second-hand store that you can think of. Otherwise, if you want to take the long way and try your hand at using the sewing machine, you are more than welcome to.

Of course, if your red dress does not have a white ribbon on the bottom, feel free to buy some ribbon at a nearby fabric/craft store and stitch it on. Just be sure that you don’t accidently sew the front and backs of the dress while attaching the ribbon around it.

Side note: Don’t want to cosplay as Sakura this year? No problem! Here on Costume Grab, we already have a Wood Card Guardian cosplay that you can use to either dress up as your favorite card guardian villain or a sweet innocent fairy from the anime of your choice.

Alternative cosplay: https://www.costumegrab.com/search/view/130

Suit up fellow My Hero Academia fans! For here is an awesome Deku cosplay just for you.

This is especially great is you already have a green, breathable jumpsuit available from the time you last cosplayed as Rock Lee from Naruto.

What you’ll need:

A green suit

A brown belt with pockets attached to it

Brown/red hiking boots

White, gigantic gloves

White shoulder pads

Black leg plastic braces

A grey face mask

For the most part, you can get all of these pieces at any secondhand shop and/or costume shop. As for the mask, gloves, and belt, you can easily purchase them at any hardware or gardening store and make some adjustments to them.

Side note: Don’t have time to dress up as Deku this year, but still want to wear a suit? Then for any of you Vocaloid fans out there, here’s a nice Len costume that you can try to see if you can make some adjustments to.

Costume alternative: https://www.costumegrab.com/search/view/106

In the name of the moon, we punish you...for not taking the time to read some of our previous costume blogs, of course. Ha ha! Just kidding.

Anyway, for those looking for a less mainstream Sailor scout to cosplay as, but don’t know where to start, here’s a nice starting cosplay.

What you’ll need:

A white short sleeved shirt

A green skirt

Green high-heeled boots

A green collar with a pink bow attached to it

Long white gloves

Green armbands

A giant pink bow to tie on the back

A yellow tiara

For the most part, you can find some of these items at any second hand and/or craft store that you go to. However, if you’re really on a time crunch, you can always take a Japanese sailor student uniform and rework it however you see fit.

Take this green sailor uniform that we have on our website for instance: https://www.costumegrab.com/search/view/122

With just a little bit of stitching, as well as some extra materials on hand, you’ll be sure to make the perfect Sailor Jupiter and/or sailor scout outfit out there in the galaxy.

Side note: Of course, you can always use our “starter cosplay” to cosplay as Kagome from InuYasha or any other anime girl who wears such an outfit. Remember her, folks?

Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight. Never running from a real fight...Yup! You guessed it! it’s everyone’s favorite shoujo anime couple: Sailor Moon and her partner in crime, Tuxedo Mask(aka. Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba), in all of their former anime glory.

A perfect one for beginners especially to start off with, this cosplay couple pairing is great for those who are on a time crunch, but fortunately, still have plenty of things in their house to mix and match with.

For Sailor Moon/Serenity, here’s what you’ll need:

A white, sleeveless dress with gold rings at the bust area

A pair of white wings

A gold tiara

To create the gold rings on the dress, you can paint them onto your dress using gold acrylic/fabric paint. As for the wings, you should be able to find a pair at your local craft store that you can easily customize. Meanwhile, if you already have a gold tiara from the last time you dressed as a sailor scout, then you should be in pretty good shape. So yeah, pretty easy cosplay now, huh?

For Tuxedo Mask, here’s what you’ll need:

A black suit with gold buttons attached to it

A black top hat

A pair of black shoes

A white dress shirt

A white bow

A white mask

Link from The Legend of Zelda (Classic)

However, if you’re really desperate to impress your friends, feel free to go all out and make this outfit on your own using green fabric, brown fabric, cardboard, or whatever else you can find at your local craft store.

Mario and Luigi from Super Mario Brothers

I’m pretty that by now, most of you are already familiar with the Mario brothers. However, if you’re not, regardless, here’s an idea for easy cosplaying.

Image via [https://pixabay.com/en/mario-luigi-figures-funny-colorful-1558012/]

What you’ll need(for Mario):

A pair of blue overalls with yellow buttons

A red long-sleeved shirt

A red hat with the letter “M” embedded on it

Brown shoes

A pair of white gloves

A stereotypical, big bushy, Italian moustache with a matching accent

Psssstttt...Need a shortcut?

It’s a me, Mario: https://www.costumegrab.com/search/view/109

What you’ll need(for Luigi):

A pair of blue overalls with yellow buttons

A green long-sleeved shirt

A green hat with the letter “L” embedded on it

Brown shoes

A pair of white gloves

A stereotypical, big bushy, Italian moustache with a matching accent

Psssstttt...Need a shortcut?

It’s a me, Luigi: https://www.costumegrab.com/search/view/110

For the most part, you can find all of the parts at either your local anime or costume shop. However, if you really need to dress to impress your friends, feel free to do so. Just work on your best stereotypical Italian accent and I’m sure that you’ll be able to convince your friends otherwise.

Pyramid Head from Silent Hill

Watch out, folks! It’s one of Silent Hill’s most evil residents, as well as one of our trickiest characters to cosplay as. However, if you’re really desperate to spend all of that time and effort to make the best pyramid shaped head that you can possibly make out of paper-mache, the experience should be rewarding.

Image via [http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/File:Red_Pyramid.png]

What you’ll need:

A gray tunic

A big, wide, metal sword

A big, black, two-ton, pyramid head(weight is optional, just fyi...)

Black/silver shoes

Using a pair of scissors, some mud, and whatever else you can do to ruin your tunic, cut open a bunch of holes and throw your “costume” into some rubble to make it look like a piece of rubbish.

Then, using either paper-mache, black cardboard, or two-tons of iron(okay, maybe not iron…), create yourself a nice, big, black pyramid head.

As for the sword, you can either purchase one at your local convention(not recommended) or make one of your own using paper-mache and/or cardboard. With it, you can color it with either grey silver tape or paint, whichever is easier and (more importantly), won’t get you in trouble with any of the con guards.

Kara/Connor/Android from Detroit: Become Human

Whether you want to dress up as Kara, Connor, or an android of your very own, don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone for this one, folks! After all, that’s what cosplaying is all about. So don’t let the naysayers freak you out if they notice a “flaw” in your cosplay. They’re just jealous that you came up with a more “original idea” than they did. ;)

What you’ll need(generally speaking...):

Either a white and black suit with short sleeves(for Kara) or a white James Bond style long-sleeve shirt with a matching black tie(for Connor)

A blue jacket(for Connor)

Black pants with a brown belt(for Connor)

Either a pair of white or brown shoes(for both and/or “original android”)

A light blue triangle patch(for Kara and/or “original android”)

Either a patch that says “Kara”, a patch that says, “RK800”, or some white thread

A removable LED light to be placed on the right template of the head. This light can be either red, yellow, or blue(good for Connor, Kara, and/or "original android")

Soldier(s) from Fortnite

For this cosplay, you don’t need to go for all of the fancy frills just to make it unique. Instead, you can basically use whatever you have lying around your house. As long as you stay true to either the character and/or the the spirit of the game itself, there’s no right or wrong way to cosplay as anyone from Fortnite.

What you’ll need(generally speaking...):

Army style street clothes

A couple of guns and/or swords(preferably fake ones)

Black or brown shoes(depending on your preference)

An award-winning personality ;)

By now, you should probably have most of these pieces hidden in your very own home. Otherwise, feel free to borrow/take whatever it is that you see fit. After all, that is what the real Agent 007 would do. ;)

Are you nervous about coming to your very first anime convention because you don't speak "the same language" as everyone else? Well don't be! Regardless as to whether you're a newbie or a veteran of anime conventions, everyone gets some part of the lingo wrong at some point.

Don't believe us? Well be sure to check out our top ten words to know before coming to your first anime convention.

Anime(アニメ) - Short for animation, the word, anime, is used to describe animation that comes (specifically) from Japan. It is heavily inspired by Western animations such as Walt Disney’s Snow White and Max Fleischer’s Betty Boop. As much as we love Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as many other Eastern inspired animations, neither of these are considered anime by any means.

Manga(漫画) - Literally translated as “free/overflowing drawings” in Japanese, manga is a type of comic book found in Japan that is often read from right to left as opposed to from left to right. Though most anime lovers claim that “the manga is better than the anime”, most of them still prefer to watch the anime version of their “favorite manga series” during their spare time.

Otaku(オタク) - Often used to describe people who are overly passionate towards anime and manga, the word, otaku, is actually a neutral word used to describe people who are overly passionate towards anything. So if you hear anyone use this word at an anime convention, don’t panic! There’s nothing wrong with loving something that you enjoy doing. Just ask our friend, James, from Pokemon, here.
Weeaboo - Often used to describe foreigners who have an unhealthy obsession with Japanese culture, the word, weeaboo, originated from a webcomic called The Perry Bible Fellowship as a substitute for the word, “wapanese”, an insulting term used to describe Western people who have an unhealthy obsession with Japanese culture. Although this word started out as a nonsensical substitute for a “bad word”, overtime, it too became classified as a “bad word” in the anime/manga/otaku community. Go figure, right?

Moe (萌え) - Literally translated as “budding” or “to sprout” in Japanese, the word, moe, is used to describe anything that is cute, perky, and spontaneous such as our friend, Honey Senpai, from Ouran High School Host Club down below. Usually, this word has a negative connotation, but if used correctly, it can also have a positive meaning to it. So the next time your fellow maid wants to chant, "moe, moe”, with you while shaking away your favorite anime cocktail, don’t be afraid to chant it with her.

Brief Japanese Grammer Lesson of the Day

Let's say you're given the following sentence:

ジャックさんはとてもかわいいの人です.

In the following sentence...

ジャック(Jack) is the subject

さん(san) is an honorific used for an older person. In this case, さん(san) can be translated as either "Mr." or "Ms.", depending on which gender Jack wants to be on that day...

は(wa) is the particle used to describe the subject in the present moment

とても(totemo) means "very"

かわいい(kawaii) means “cute”

の(no) is a possessive used to describe the adjective as being a part of something

人(hito) means “person”

です(desu) is just there to finish everything off.

Altogether, the sentence readers as, "Jack/Jack-san/Mr. Jack/Ms. Jack is a very cute person,” which, in all honesty, isn't a bad thing.

In other words, the "word," です(desu), acts as a placemarker to signify that the sentence/observation has been completed, for now, anyway.

Lolita(ロリータ) - Based off of 18th century Victorian gowns, gothic subculture fashions, and many other Western styles of clothing, lolita is a popular, expensive, modest Japanese street fashion that bratty teenage girls ages 10 to 30 beg their parents to get for them. This style of dress has NOTHING to do with Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. Instead, it has to do with young girls wanting to dress nice and modest without being looked down upon by society.

So anyway, that's our blog, folks! Thanks for reading! But before we leave, let me ask you, what other words do you suggest that we add onto our blog for next time? Is there a particular word in Japanese culture that you still have a hard time understanding? Have you ever been refered to as either a "weeaboo" and/or an "otaku" before? If so, how did it make you feel?

Be sure to leave us a comment at the bottom if you either like this blog and/or have any questions related to anime culture in general.

Oh, and one more thing...Because you readers have been such awesome readers, we would like to give you at least one more additional bonus word as our way of saying, "thanks", for getting through this whole, crazy, cosplay blog.

And speaking of thanks, here's what our little friend, the modern man with parts made in Japan, has to say...

Domo(ども ) - Short for domo arigatougozaimasu(ども ありがとう ございます), domo is just a casual way of saying, “thanks.” So next time you hear that famous Styx song playing on the radio, at least you know now as to what they’re talking about...You're welcome Gen X members...

Whether you're looking for costumes for kids, costumes for adults, halloween costumes, comic con costumes or anything else in between there's a few things to look for in a good costume.

Quality Costumes

Obviously the first thing to look for is a quality costume. Costumes come in many shapes and sizes, but if you don't have quality, you don't have anything. At Costume Grab, we rigourously search through all of our listings to weed out any clear examples of a costume that is not up to our quality standards.

We have made it clear from that start that nobody wants "junk" costumes that are ripped, torn, or dirty. We strive to provide all buyers with the highest quality costumes availaible in both your local area and across the nation. We expect every seller to be up front and honest about all of their listings and any defects they may have, however small.

Lately we have had many IT costumes (from the IT movie) on our site lately, but we noticed that one of them had multiple tears that were not listed in the description. Through our vetting process we were able to contact the seller, who took down the listing, until the issue was fixed. Make sure to ask costume sellers about any concerns you have involving the quality of the costume as that is our number one priority here at Costume Grab.

Original Costumes

Nowadays it can be tough to find original costumes. Now when I say original costumes, that does not mean that you have to come up with a completely new costume that no one has ever done. Good luck with doing that! Often times the best way to come up with an original costume, is to take a well known costume and add a twist to it. For example, if you're trying to come up with costumes for kids, there are a lot of Princess and Pirate costumes out there. But what would happen if you turned that cute little Princess or Pirate costume into a blood thirsty zombie Princess or Pirate costume? Then you would have a fun and original costume. This technique is expecially useful with halloween costumes. Costumes for halloween are notorious for being cookie cutter, but with a little bit of imagination, you can turn that plain old costume into the life of the party.

Classic Costumes

I think some of the best costumes for Halloween are the classic costumes. People continue to surprise me with cool vampire costumes, zombie costumes, and every other type of classic costume you can imagine. Over the years, people have really started to step up their game and show off their skills in putting together costumes.

At this years Comic Con, I saw a classic Darth Vader costume that I swear looked like an exact replica of the ones from the movies. People couldn't believe how accurate the voice was when he spoke in that distinct Darth Vader voice (with the voice changing mechanism). The funny part was that he had a huge cartoonish Darth Vader head. We actually started to think it must be a movie quality costume aside from the head of course. As people started to gather around, someone asked about his costume and he replied that his wife had been a movie lighting producer and pieced together the outfit from about ten different sets she had been a part of.

The point I'm trying to make is that although there are a ton of new costume ideas out there, you can easily take a classic costume and make it your own in an infinite amount of ways.

Funny Costumes

Now this is one of my favorite types of costumes. It doesn't take too much to come up with a funny costume. One thing I've noticed is that the funniest costumes are costumes for dogs and costumes for cats. I mean common, is there anything funnier than that? Sometimes it's hard to find one of the funny dog or cat costumes on Costume Grab because they can dissapear pretty quick. But every time a new one gets listed, it puts a smile on my face. Some of the other funny costumes I see are gorillas carrying humans in a cage, or grown men riding on tiny horses. I'm always suprised what people will come up with next. A funny costume is definitely my favorite type of costume. Funny costumes are not only fun to create but they often get you the best reactions at whatever party you're at. By the way, funny costumes are not usually the most expensive, but they can be some of the most original as well.

Serious Costumes

Coming in at a very close second, is my love of serious costumes. When you're looking for costumes for Halloween, costumes for men, costumes to women, and every other costume in between, finding a serious costume can be one of the best options out there. Every heard of Cosplay? People who enjoy Cosplay often come up with the most amazing serious costumes ever. There is a whole generation of people who have put their blood, sweat, and tears into creating some of the most beautiful costumes you have ever seen. My definition of serious costumes is anything that someone has spent a lot of money on, or spent a lot of time creating. Serious costumes grace the top of the search page at Costume Grab frequently and I love seeing them there. I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone who can create some of these amazing costumes. If you're looking for one of the best places to see some of the most well done costumes, then look no further than Comic Con. Whatever city you find Comic Con in, you will also find the coolest costumes there is.

So there are some tips on how to find, or create, the best costumes for any occasion. At Costume Grab we welcome every type of costume there is. Feel free to list, costumes for kids, costumes for cats, costumes for teen, costumes for dogs, costumes for men, costumes to woman, Cosplay costumes, Comic Con costumes, and any and every costume in between. We created this marketplace for people like us who want an easy and convenient way to buy and sell all the costumes we love.

Thanks for stopping by!
